Greetings Sonic Paradox,

It is I your Sonic Paradox Deep Fried Techie here to tell you about what's on the up and up for the computer world to better help protect you!

Here in this forum post you'll get updates on the latest and greatest threats to your computers as they come out and we can confirm them. It's best that we all protect ourselves, and what better way to do it then to post the info as it comes out.

Keep an eye out when an update hits, because you never know when you could be the one it pertains to.

Very Respectfully,
Shadow Remix

Greeting fellow SP Members!

It is I, your SP Deep Fried Techie here with an update from across the virtual net. Information has been confirmed and passed along between myself and Duskye to determine that the information is indeed correct and current as of today.

The link below is disturbing and to say the least, but at this point if we don't put the information out to all of you then how can we protect you right? So we would ask that you take a moment to delve into this information so that it may benefit SP as a whole. This current backdoor affects ALL SYSTEMS as of right now.

You accidentally double-posted... :ermm:

Anyways, what about when you try to get Sonic Nexus from Sonic Retro, especially the latest version, but Norton Security Suite removes the infected file upon extracting from the zip archive?

People, don't get your games off Sonic Retro, unless you have Norton handy.

Greetings Morphius,

If you are referring to the two posts in this topic then you are mistaken as the first post describes what this topic is about, and the second post outlines a new threat to users who constantly use a USB method of file transfer between computers.

As for anything of the nature involving games from other sites please be aware that most Sonic Fan Games/Hacks are ripped apart from the games themselves so as to grab code to build upon. Having to do this requires that you have files that need to be in place that would otherwise be classified as malware/infections. Whether or not this is true is up to the user downloading and willing to take the risk at hand.

I myself have come across many files and have created a few myself so as to make my life a lot easier, and easier for many others. Again, whether or not they or I believe these to be safe files instead of false positives is a leap of faith that a user must take.

Very Respectfully,
Shadow Remix

First of all, this is a much needed topic, thanks!

YIKES! That's quite scary to say at the least, since I'm very dependent on my USB drive (I keep all of my school files and videos in it, and last time I lost it, our project was delayed for an entire month...) I might not be too vulnerable to it (because I don't use it on much computers, only school and home- AND, India... is usually slow in such matters...) but who knows. Hopefully it doesn't causes much harm.

Oh God, Northon, I swear I've never hated anything more. I'm a kaspersky user, though it is turned off too... it was ok until I downloaded stuff, ADS EVERYWHERE!

I've recently been booting my system up only to see the 'Windows Repair' screen. It informs me that it hasn't started up properly and will try to repair itself. When I check the details, it says the error was a 'bluescreen' that caused an unexpected shutdown. At 1st, I thought it might be because I hadn't closed out of skype before shutting down, but I've gotten the msg once more after quitting skype via Task Manager, THEN shutting down.

When the 'repair' process was finished, Windows asked me to unplug any recent devices and restart. This alarmed me.
Stay inspired!

KaDoYuu,

I will talk with you on this subject first chance I have and I will delve in the dump files to see what the cause could possibly be.

WARNING!

Greetings Sonic Paradox,

As of now if you have a Gmail account it is STRONGLY ADVISED that you change your password associated with it. As of today it has been reported through many technical groups that over 5 million Gmail accounts have been leaked online. Sources right now say it was "...through another website, or through a compilation of weak passwords."

http://news.tigerdirect.com/2014/09/10/5-million-stolen-gmail-user-names-and-passwords-have-leaked-online/

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/5-million-gmail-usernames-passwords-posted-online-article-1.1935155

http://www.nextgov.com/cybersecurity/threatwatch/2014/09/user-accounts-compromised-stolen-credentials-data/1490/

Snopes currently has not debunked this, and in issues where email security is present I (as a Computer Tech) take things like this seriously.

You can check to see if your email was leaked here, but it's running slow at the moment so give it time: https://isleaked.com/en.php

If you have a Gmail account it would be wise to take care of this ASAP!

Very Respectfully,

Greetings,

For all users of Twitch... there is a new Malware program that is going through Twitch chats, and right now it seems to be targeting Steam users.

It's designed to put a link in the chat to something about a weekly raffle, and once you click on the link and fill out the form the malware does it's job and goes to work by installing a Windows binary on your computer that bleeds your account dry.

How does it do this? It'll take items from your account by trading them other others, putting friends on your list you don't know, selling items on the market at discounted prices, and then getting others that are more interesting. Since this is all happening on your computer it bypasses the Steam security measures as it's on your computer, and that's the most secure way of accessing an account already verified... through it's host.

WHAT TO TAKE AWAY FROM THIS: Just don't click on links in Twitch Chat for the time being while this is sorted out.

Greetings,

There are some of us here that prefer to use an Operating System other than Windows which is perfectly ok. XD

We Unix users now have a problem and it's something that can be easily corrected, but if you don't know about it then you can't be protected. The link provided has the correct information on this new threat and I HIGHLY suggest that if you're a Unix user you read it!

It is unclear at this time if this affects the Unix based Apple Mac OS X and Android...

Greetings,

So this goes without saying that usually the Technical alerts I post here apply to few at best, and sometimes almost everyone. I think this is the first alert that applies to EVERYONE! I am not kidding when I state this.

Just recently it came across my way that a new way to steal credit card pin numbers has come to light, and at this time it's really stupid simple. I'm not even joking when I say this is really.... stupid... simple. The method you're about to read and watch the video on, WHICH I WOULD LIKE EVERYONE TO DO, will show you EXACTLY what I mean. This is a no BS threat to everyone here, and we need to keep ourselves protected out there.

Greetings,

It seems that the cat is finally out of the bag and we're able to talk about this new piece of malware that has been going around large businesses on the net. Before you ask yes this does apply to everyone here due to the fact that now it may target the consumer world.

For the TL:DR version: This new malware has the capability to overwrite your Hard Drive's Master Boot Record and essentially all data files associated therein. What does this mean? Well... it means good luck trying to get anything back as standard means of forensic recovery DO NOT work.
