Art Critque Corner; I need advice...

Alright everyone, I'm in a big mess right now and I need all the help I can get to deal with it and get things sorted out.

I've been recently going for a computer science major at my university, and unfortunately I find a lot of it not only flies right over my head (not to mention I lack a lot of the math knowledge for it), but I don't really find it a worthy venture to take on. So, I've been pondering my alternatives, with one of them being to change my major over to animation.

I know the risks are a lot bigger for me there (it is an art field, after all), which is why I need all the advice and tips I can get for a guy trying to decide whether to go that route. To help get a better idea of my current animating skills, here's an animation I've just finished up this morning:

http://piggybank12.deviantart.com/#/d4bhdjc

This animation had a bigger focus on fluidity, and overall just trying to bring as much life to these two characters as I could.

Another animation I've just finished recently (which I'm sure most of you around here are aware of), is the Sonic Short I made for the Sonic Shorts collection:

http://piggybank12.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4901os

Unlike the one I just finished, this one is fully colored, not to mention has an original script to it and voice acting.

I have many other animations as well, but these are probably the ones I will be using as reference points when I show my current skills to other people. If there's anything anyone could suggest as to how to improve upon these animations (as well as any tips, advice or even warnings with the animation field), please by all means voice them out and let me know. I will do my very best to put them in action and improve for possibly taking on animation at my school and working to animate at a professional level.

Do you have Skype/AIM/Live messenger? I would like to ask a few questions so I can give you a better answer.

Same drawing I made when I was on Livestream. All advice/criticism welcome.

I must say, B-W, this looks quite nice. You're beginning to find your style in both shading and actual drawing trend.

There are two things in this picture that stand out, however, and they are as follows:

A. Knuckles' nose is far too fat. It encompasses the height of his entire muzzle profile in the image while it's far thinner in actuality. Though it is a tad fatter and triangular in design as compared to the noses of others, it better fits the muzzle when it ends in a thinner point overall. Therefore, with a differently-shaped muzzle, the nose would appear correct if properly proportioned to said shape.

B. Knux's dreadlocks cut off after the muzzle. In a profile or any view where the dreadlocks overlap another part of the head, they don't cut off at the end of the muzzle, but rather slightly higher up, and cut off around the top of the eyes, as seen here.

Besides those minor gripes, this is certainly progress and a step forward in finding your style.

A. Yeah, I agree. But for some reason, I always thought of him having a big nose. My apologies.

B. I don't really see what you're saying, and yes, the link's broken.

Glad you liked it, though, and I do agree that it's a lot nicer than my other submissions. (And I also noticed that I drew the crescent on his chest in the wrong direction. My bad)

ah, it prevents redirects. Bums.

this is a working example. Notice how the dreadlocks don't stop until they reach the top of the eye.

I got bored one day and decided to draw something, sooo I looked up a sonic pic as a source and began drawing. I stopped midway through as it was kinda a busy day so I got distracted. Here's what I have so far.

Your lines are very light, but I can almost make out a face of some sort... with what looks like spiky hair. Is this inspired by a Japanese animation of some sort? ;)

In a way, yes :P.

Here's a version with more darker lines.

Hm.. I see the lines more clearly, now.. I'm still not sure what it is? A sword? A shield?

...a dinner plate? :B
