That one's shit compared to this one. Took around two hours to get this one done from a sketch:

Yes, that is what I looked off of to draw this, scanned it, then outlined it in Flash 8 and colored it in.

I'm sorry, but I hardly think that that could have been done 'from a sketch', if it looks nearly IDENTICAL to the official image. I'd think the sketch would be from scratch, built up with shapes and curves, in a pose picked from life or something.. you know... CREATIVE.. Since when do sketches copy everything detail by detail? .___.

The first image is traced from Archie comics. It's obviously something Steven Butler has drawn.

A couple of images I created to promote my 'Rise of the Tails Doll' series. Part 1 is in currently in production. The image on the left is missing his head jewel for a reason :)

You guys would be surprised. I actually saved an old Sonic Adventure sketch from 2000, 1999? It looks identical to the coverart of Sonic Adventure. I know, I junked most of my work, but when I get back in-state, I will scan it for the world to see.

Anyways, I remember the Archie-esque sketch from his introduction topic. Look at them closely, you'll see that it wasn't traced... ;) Or the left arm and the gauntlet in the Black Knight sketch.

Not being traced is one thing, but making a sketch of an existing drawing- almost every single detail down to a tee- is just as bad as tracing. All right, he took his time, but common sense please! Take Kaizoku for example, do you think he copies images detail for detail? No, the reason why he's so good is he gets better by tonnes of practice with drawing from scratch, so much so he's WELL PAST the stage of even using references, let alone copying.

The fact is, you just have to get your head away from the actual coverart/particular official art and think outside the box- using your own poses from memory, thinking of a scene and using a different pose to what you usually would. I know it's hard as hell, I remember when trying to use skeleton guides from scratch, for Neopets poses, trying to make all the details fit perfectly in my own pose from scratch. They'd be all higgeldy piggeldy, details would look horribly deformed, the pose lopsided and I'd get upset. I was 13/14 at the time and yet I still didn't feel the need to copy an existing one and say it was a sketch I made. Just force yourself out of the comfort zone and go through these trials otherwise you won't improve.

This is probably going to offend, but I seriously don't see the need for posting copied images. It really ticks me off. Especially considering that this is a thread for creativity.

I'm not trying to sound like a dick, but I did not trace either of those images. I look off of the images, and yes, you were right, the first one was from the Archie series. Besides, if I were to trace the Black Knight one, don't you think the hilt would look more accurate? And the details in the sword are shit, no offense. I don't think that I should be criticized THAT harshly T_T. Just because I wanted to make an image or two with the detail, sheesh...

EDIT: I can draw other things perfectly fine, I just wanted to go for a Flash-ish look for the Black Knight, that's all. The first one was old work that I was bored, and wanted to learn how to color with Flash and all.

Yeah but, you could have said that. I don't like when people use copyrighted images and don't even mention anything about it, like, at the very beginning of introducing the work. If it were me, I'd say straight away that I was experimenting with a different colour style for the same image, and state that the image is therefore clearly not my own work, merely a collaboration of sorts. I mean, for example, a friend of mine borrowed a sketch from her friend to lineart and use for a photoshop tutorial, but she gave her friend full credit from the sketch right from the off. But the way you said it - 'looking off it to draw it', just sounds strange. As if you were looking off it to draw 'your own'.

Ugh, I guess I'm just really touchy about this and will shut up now.

That's fine that you did it for color practice, but don't expect an entire board of artists not to call you on something that's been copied. Whether it was traced or just sight-read, it was still copied.

@ Jacksaw: Hunh... well... just so I don't bother anyone with it, I will post the 'copied' artwork I drew myself in the form of a link; that way, people will only see it if they want to. :)

@ JtH: Your official-esque artwork is good, but you should post your 'other things' so we can see what you can do without reference. ^^

Yes, I know that, and I realized that I forgot to mention that, so I, too, will shut up now. Think I'll do some original stuff, got like....all my original drawings dating back to 1992. I think there's some good ones from recent in there to scan in and Flash ^_^.
